That’s where the Hawk-Lock® on Kershaw’s new all-black R.A.M. (Restraint Articulated Mechanism) comes in. The patent-pending Hawk-Lock® keeps the R.A.M.’s Tungsten DLC coated blade exactly where the knife user wants it—either securely locked inside the handle for carrying, or safely locked into position for use. The R.A.M. features Flipper ambidextrous opening, as well as built-in thumb knobs for fast and easy opening. To close the blade, unlock the Hawk-Lock® and fold the blade in. This unique technology led Blade Magazine to name the original R.A.M. as 2007’s Most Innovative American Design. Includes removable/reversible, 3-position pocket clip.

This review is from: Kershaw Ram Knife with Black Tungsten DLC Coated Blade (Sports)
I absolutely love this knife. As background, I shopped around for several months before deciding on a Benchmade 940 Osborne. I previously had a $20 Smith & Wesson, so this was a significant move up. I was moving to a more tactical environment and was ready to pay the money for a good blade. I received the Benchmade, and it was indeed a great knife: well constructed, high-end steel, good-looking. However, I really didn't like the way it felt. Maybe it was the anodized aluminum, but it felt very chinsy in my hand. I also didn't like the way it opened/closed. Further, it had a tacky purple spacer that was not evident in pictures. I planned for it to be my last knife, so I figured for the price I paid for it, it should have been perfect. So back to the drawing board. Short story long, I ordered the Kershaw RAM. It was 1/3 the price of the Benchmade, but it is perfect for me. The steel is not as good, but it's a much better size, has better mechanics, and is better balanced than the Benchmade. The quality is evident on every detail of this knife. The profile is better (flatter, more symmetrical), and it has an effective, yet understated grip. It came razor sharp and I've used it several times with no noticeable wear. It cuts through everything I throw at it like butter. Maybe it won't last as long as the Benchmade (although based on my research these have a great life), but I would rather buy three of these throughout my life than be stuck with a knife I don't absolutely love. I have to carry this thing everyday and love using it. I also won't lose too much sleep in the unlikely event I lose this knife--can't say the same for that Benchmade.
