I didn't want to buy this jig saw...it wasn't on my short-list. The Bosch 1591 or the Festool PS300 were my first choices. I've had a couple of crappy jigsaws in the past and decided to step up. I mostly use the jigsaw for pattern making and decided I'd had enough of post-jigsaw OSS sanding.

I borrowed a 4351 from a friend and was impressed with it's balance, weight and smoothness. I used it for a couple projects and am now addicted to having an LED light my cutting path. I've used the Festool at a local woodcraft...very nice, great dust collection, smooth operator, had a hard time rationalizing the price. The Makita and Bosch are on-par wrt operation...the bosch is nice but I couldn't justify the extra $50 on any spec...nicer case, ok but that LED light on the Makita...

I am concerned about the blade release lever snapping off...not by me but someone else...time will tell. I ordered the $4 dust collection nozzle which can be mounted on either side of the blade and has a goofy 7/8" hose that'll have to be adapted somehow (ordered from Makita directly...nobody even knows about it...part number 4178534...even the guy at Makita US couldn't find it right away.) Don't know how well it works but I can't imagine it out collecting the PS300...it likely won't get used as it obscures the blade well.

Very happy with the cut quality and control, which at the end of the day, is what I bought it for.
