Product Description

, Columbia River Knife and Tool's M16-13T ,Spyderco Dragonfly2 Brithish Racing Green FRN ZDP-189 PlainEdge Knife ,KA-BAR #1222 Next Generation Straight Edge Fighting Utility Knife , Spyderco ParaMilitary2 Camo G-10 Black Blade PlainEdge Knife , Spyderco Sage Titanium Plain Edge Knife Cold Steel is famous for raising the bar in the knife industry and our Recon 1 tactical folders are setting a standard that's hard to beat. Why? Because they are as tough as nails and will cut like a chain saw! Every facet of their construction has been over engineered to make them as strong, durable and effective as humanly possible. The blades are made out of imported Japanese AUS 8A stainless steel that's been vacuum heat treated and sub-zero quenched and the handles feature G-10 laminate scales artfully contoured and scalloped for a terrific non slip grip.

This review is from: Cold Steel Recon 1 G-10 Handle with Clip Point Black Blade, ComboEdge (Sports)
I originally was looking to purchase the gerber gator folder, but i was feeling a little lucky so i bumped up to the recon 1.

The knife is extremely solid. the G10 is very aggressive so it will rip your jeans and the blade couldn't be more perfect.

As much as i love the design, the ergonomics, and the blade, the one thing about this knife that i hate with a vengeance is the Triad lock. It is extremely difficult to close and i emphasize "extremely." At first you might not mind, but over time, it takes its toll on the fingers. It's stiff and sticky and not smooth at all. Sadly, this setback brings the whole knife down. The lock-up on the original Recon 1 was tons better so if you can still find one the market, i recommend going with that one.

Pros:

-ergonomics
-aggressive G10
-edge retention
-solid overall quality

Cons:
-the Triad lock

[[UPDATE 6/1/11]]

Ok, so when I first got this knife, I was pretty hard on it because of the the Triad lock being so difficult to operate. Now that I've had this knife a few weeks, I got used to it and now it's actually very simple to close the knife. Honestly, I was almost going to return it and get something else, but I'm really glad I didn't. The overall action of the knife is smooth--it just takes some getting used to. It's probably more comfortable than my Spyderco Tenacious. Even though they're difference sizes and have different points of uses, they are both knives that just "fit."

I've bumped this knife up to 5 stars which is not something I do often, because when I've made my mind, I tend to stick by it, and I've never been so pleasantly wrong.
