Thieves Essential Oil by Young Living Essential Oils - 15 ml (Misc.) I've been working with aromatherapy, as a self-health hobby, for the past 20 years. I've had some pretty high quality oils in that time, such as rose oil costing nearly NZ$ 400 (about US$ 220 back at that time) for a 20 ml bottle. So I am well aware pure therapy grade essential oils can be expensive.I had used a few bottles of Thieve's (a friend was or is a distributor) before deciding to make my own. You can find the recipe online (UPDATE: I've posted it below). I decided to make my own because I felt that spending roughly $30 to $40 for 15 ml of relatively inexpensive constituent oils (rosemary, clove, lemon, eucalyptus, and cinnamon) was not justifiable. None of these are rare/expensive oils.I have no reason to doubt Young Living makes high quality oils, but I fail to see how they can be so extraordinarily good that these kind of prices are justified. It must be remembered Young Living is primarily a multi-level marketing company, and MLM products are almost ALWAYS significantly more expensive than equivalent non-MLM products. To justify such high prices (especially when many MLM companies promote that their products are LESS expensive because the "middle man" is cut out of the distribution process) they generally have to resort to making extraordinary claims about their products in order to justify they cost being high relatively to everything else on the market.In my opinion, Young Living Oils also gets into making extraordinary claims about their products. Looking at the background of Young himself indicates to me he may have some personal integrity issues, and this may be reflected in his company practices. One that especially concerns me is that apparently his literature promoted the idea of doing extractions at 0 psi (no pressure) for better quality oil. Yet his own factory was found to be doing extractions at 125psi, so high it blew up one of his self-made extraction devices and seriously injured a worker. This ended up in the media. Of course Young Living will have their own side to this story, but it raises big question marks for me. Whilst I am not a big supporter of the quackwatch.org site (and the people behind it) and I most certainly do NOT agree with the MOST of their worldview, I will say they have turned up some interesting and insightful info about the history of Gary Young (just search Google for "young essential oils quackwatch" without the quotation marks)
